Olivo Barbieri

“With the series Stadiums 1999 and India 1999, I began to realize partially blurred images.
I took this decision because I was tired of the alleged democratic definition of photography. I wanted to be able to decide which is the point of interest within the image, just as with the written page where you can decide where to start reading. What happened though was that I found myself in front of a representation of a world on a small scale, a plastic model. So I decided to find out what I ‘saw’ if I had moved away from the ground lifting the point of view upwards.
In 2003 I began a series, called site specific_, a study on the shape of the contemporary city. By reading the reality as if it were a plastic model, in the planning stage, we have the opportunity to question it.
In 2008-2009, I have almost completely abandoned the research with the use of the selective focus. I decided to go further back, starting once again from the rendering and the drawing. In 2013, the project is almost finished and the cities represented are over forty.
